CASA of Westmoreland, Inc. (Court Appointed Special
Advocates) is a non-profit agency that provides volunteers to
act as independent advocates for children who are in the court
system due to abuse and neglect. These volunteers collaborate
with a variety of individuals involved with the child including
the case worker through Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau
and a variety of service providers.
In 2007 CASA of Westmoreland, Inc. served 12 children and had 15 active
volunteers. By 2008 the number of children who were provided advocacy
by CASA quadrupled to 49 children. The number of children served in
2009 continued to increase, and CASA served 97 children with 39 active
Volunteers. In 2010 CASA served 110 children and had 44 active
volunteers. In 2011 CASA served 166 children and had 56 active
volunteers.
CASA of Westmoreland, Inc. currently serves 123 children of the
over 300 children in the court system who have been removed from
their home due to abuse or neglect. The goal for our CASA
program is to be able to one day provide service to every child
in Westmoreland County who is in need of advocacy.
